In April 2017, we published a blog with crucial information about EpiPen and EpiPen Jr Recalls. Recently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accused Meridian Medical Technologies, Inc., a Pfizer medical company that produces EpiPens, of failing to investigate hundreds of complaints that the life-saving anti-allergy device (commonly known as an EpiPen) misfired during emergency situations.

Kraft Foods Group has voluntarily recalled select Knudsen Cottage Cheese, Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese, Simply Kraft Cottage Cheese, and Daily Chef Cottage Cheese products. Some ingredients used in these products were not stored at the proper temperature safe for consumption and within Kraft’s standards.

There may be a possibility of spoilage and/or food borne illness. Approximately 1.2 million cases of the affected product were shipped to consumers across the country.

Due to a labeling mishap, Kraft is recalling 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer Classic Wiener. A consumer alerted the company of unexpected cheese filling their mouth when biting into the product. Following the alert, Kraft issued the Class I Recall due to incorrect labeling of the Classic Cheese Dogs. No adverse reactions have been reported.

AdvancePierre Foods of Oklahoma is recalling approximately 8,730 pounds of frozen chicken breast products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products were made with milk and soy and were undeclared on the label.
The products subject to recall:
10-pound bulk cases of “Our Down Home Style Chicken Breast Fritters for Chicken Frying” with Lot Code 5440730403 or 5440800403, produced March 14 and 21, 2014. Only these lot codes and dates are affected.

On March 13, 2014 Dole Fresh Vegetables announced that they are voluntarily recalling a limited number of cases of bagged salad. The products being recalled are Dole Italian Blend (UPC 7143000819), Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend (UPC 1111091045), Little Salad Bar Italian Salad (UPC 4149811014) and Market side Italian Style Salad (UPC 8113102780) coded A058201A or B, with Use-by date of March 12, 2014 due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

Merck, the pharmaceutical company has developed a new insomnia drug that could replace leading competitors such as Ambien. Suvorexant, the new sleeping pill that the company has been developing for a decade, was proved to be safe and effective. The FDA was to approve the new drug and if the government approved suvorexant, it would be launched within a year.

According to the FDA, salmonella, insects, excrement, and hair have been found in imported spices from countries such as India and Vietnam. This has caused outbreaks all over the world. Between 2007 and 2010, 12% of some imported spices have been contaminated. The spices were also twice as likely to contain salmonella as any other inspected foods with almost 7% of the goods containing the pathogen during the 3-year period.
