In a recent report released by State Comptroller Thomas D. Napoli major deficiencies in the State’s ability to efficiently identifying and prevent nursing home abuse and neglect were uncovered.
The State has the ability to impose fines when Nursing Homes fail to meet basic standards. Any number of circumstances could constitute a fine. The severity of these circumstances varies, but many are linked to either abuse or neglect or the possibility of abuse or neglect. According to data found in the report some Nursing Homes got away with sub par assessments for up to 6 years before a fine was issued.
