On Friday, September 2nd a fight broke out at a Buffalo Nursing home between two elderly patients. One of the patients, an 83-year-old woman, died of her injuries.
According to authorities both patients involved in the altercation were suffering from dementia. The victim sustained serious injuries that ultimately lead to her death, including a punctured lung, facial fractures, a broken neck, and a lower back fracture.
The nursing home where the incident occurred is now under investigation. Based on preliminary information it appears nursing home negligence played a factor in Friday’s tragic events.
Why the staff failed to notice the pair fighting, why the patient(s) were left to wander into unsafe areas of the facility, and why behavioral issues weren’t addressed earlier are key questions the Nursing Home administration will need to answer.
