Vermont Train Crash Still Raising Safety Concerns

In early October an Amtrak Passenger Train derailed outside of Northfield, Vermont. Thankfully there were no fatalities, however 6 people were injured. In the weeks since the crash many commuters and residents who utilize New York trains are wondering, how dependable are the rails?

According to Federal Investigators at the time of the crash it was likely rocks in the train’s path caused the train to de-rail. A full investigation is still underway.

The Vermont derailment marks one of several serious or potentially serious train crashes this year.

While members of local and federal government have debated ways to increase the safety of passenger trains, many question if adequate steps have been taken to ensure a safe ride.
