Student from Brooklyn Drowns in a Lake at Bear Mountain State Park

A 16-year-old boy from Brooklyn who was on a field trip to Bear Mountain State Park drowned when swimming in Hessian Lake yesterday. The boy was seen diving from a rock before he failed to resurface. The 16-year-old, who attended International High School in Prospect Heights, had just finished a hike with his classmates when he broke away from the group with a friend to go for a swim in Hessian Lake at about 3 p.m. Swimming is prohibited in the lake. It took rescuers about an hour to recover the boys lifeless body. It is not clear if any supervisors or teachers were in the immediate vicinity of where the students were swimming.
