The National Highway Traffic Safety Association recently unveiled the ‘SafeCar’ app for iPhones. The app allows users to search its 5-Star Safety Ratings for vehicles by make and model, locate car seat installation help, file a vehicle safety complaint, find recall information and subscribe to automatic notices about vehicle recalls. NHTSA also gives app developers real-time access to the data that powers this app. This will allow them to integrate this data into new and existing apps which will provide app users with important safety information. Features of the app include:
- 5-Star Safety Ratings: Consumers who are considering purchasing or leasing a vehicle can look up crash test ratings and compare them across different makes and models.
- Recalls & Complaints: App users can read up on safety for vehicles they already own. Consumers can register their vehicles to be notified by NHTSA if a safety issue is discovered.
- Help Installing Car Sears: The app can help consumers by providing tips on how to install a car seat properly.
- Safety Headlines & Alerts: Users can receive information and important news from NHTSA, as well as recall notices and push notices on their recorded vehicles.
