Pregnant Mother and 3-Year-Old Son Killed in Tragic Boat Collision As Father Dives In to Try and Save Them

An expectant mother and her young son died in a horrific boating crash on High Rock Lake in North Carolina on Saturday. Melissa Chambers Britt, 32, and her 3-year-old son William Jaiden Britt were killed when a speedboat collided with their pontoon boat. William Clayborn Britt, the boy’s father, was driving the boat and was unharmed, while Melissa’s brother, Michael Chambers, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. The family of four on the speedboat were not injured. Investigations are ongoing and no charges have been filed in the case. Melissa was thrown from the boat after the collision and a crew searched the lake for several hours before they retrieved her body. The son was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A family friend told WFMY that his father jumped into the water in an attempt to save his son and pregnant wife. Emergency crews said that they believe the speedboat driver was distracted and may have caused the collision. Authorities say that speed may have been a factor in the accident but claim that there was no indication that alcohol was involved. Contact us 24/7 for a free case appraisal.
