A 17-year-old Middletown High School student, Armando Colon, who was driving to his senior prom with three friends was killed late Thursday afternoon. Police say he struck the rear of a tractor-trailer when entering the westbound lanes of I-84 from Route 17 in Wallkill. He was believed to be travelling at a speed too fast for the wet road conditions. The victim’s Acura collided with the rear wheels of a tractor-trailer driven by a 44-year-old Tennessee woman. Colon was pronounced dead at Orange Regional Medical Center. A passenger, Jason Avila, 19, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Two other passengers, in the rear of the car, were not injured. No tickets were issued. This is a horrible tragedy.
