Labor Day: Safe Driving Tips

As Labor Day approaches, many are excited for the long weekend and celebrations with family and friends. Labor Day is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, so it is important to stay safe and plan ahead before you head out on the road. Here are some simple tips to follow before the holiday approaches:

  • Prepare your car: If you are traveling a long distance this holiday, make sure your car has been properly maintained. When is the last time your engine, radiator and fluids were checked?  Be sure to also check the pressure in your tires. If you are using navigation to get you from point A to point B be sure to do your programing before you begin to drive.
  • Stay safe on the road: Many people mistakenly believe distracted and driving is simply texting and driving. Engaging in conversation with others, blaring the radio, daydreaming, and adjusting your navigation are all examples of potentially dangerous distractions. If you plan on consuming alcohol be sure to pick a designated driver.
  • Avoid the traffic: Leaving early will help you avoid the traffic on highways and busy roads. By avoiding the traffic you stay can calm and relaxed on your trip. Scope out alternative routes just in case you run into an accident or congestion on your route. Do not attempt to make up time by speeding or driving aggressively.
