An advocacy group has reported traces of asbestos in children’s crayons and toy crime lab kits.
Inhaling microscopic asbestos fibers have been linked to lung disease, lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other serious health conditions.
Surprisingly Congress has yet to pass laws pertaining to asbestos in children’s products. Current laws require any product that contains asbestos to have a special label which states the product contains asbestos. The EWG Action Fund (who conducted the study) is calling for new regulations and policies, which would ban asbestos and asbestos like fibers, as well as talc (a commonly used mineral that, in its natural form, contains asbestos.)
