A 2-year-old girl accidentally shot herself with a handgun inside her North Carolina home. Police say the girl found a loaded handgun and it discharged. Her grandmother and aunt were in the home with her at the time. When officers found the infant, she was not breathing and was brought to Cape Fear Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. A neighbor commented on the tragedy by telling WNCN-TV that there have been “too many shootings” in the neighborhood recently and that she plans to move away. Police have ruled the death of the girl an accident, but the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities say that charges will likely be filed in the future.
