A man and a woman riding a motorcycle on the Thruway early Sunday, June 2, were hit and killed by an SUV. Police did not identify the driver of the car. He was in custody Sunday and faces charges of vehicular homicide and DWI. The incident occurred near Exit 16, the Harriman toll barrier at about 1:15am. The victims are Rafaelito DeJesus, 23, of Valley Stream and his passenger Melissa Rupa, 25, of Mineola. Their bodies were removed to Orange Regional Medical Center, where autopsies were planned on Sunday. Traffic on the Thruway was restricted to one lane for several hours. Police were still investigating the incident on Sunday and did not release further details of the incident.
