Following the recent December 2013 derailment, Metro-North railroad has introduced some new safety measures. The railroad has reportedly finished signally upgrades that will automatically brake speeding trains at movable bridges and sharp curves.
Transit advocate, Jim Cameron is warning riders about new timetables expected in May that may reflect a decade of slower service.
The MTA announced last week that they plan to install video cameras and audio recorded on most Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains.
Metro-North has acknowledged repeatedly that 2013 was its worst year in memory. “Safety must come first at Metro-North,” said president Joe Giulietti. “Safety was not the top priority. It must be and it will be.”
