Motorcycle Crash in Highland Leaves 2 Dead

Two Clinton Corners residents were killed in a head-on motorcycle crash on Sunday at about 8:20pm on Route 299 in Highland. According to authorities, a 2012 Mini Cooper heading west, operated by Pio Shin, 20, of New Paltz, drifted across the center line of Route 299 and struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by George Hew Jr., 43. Hew and his passenger, Karen Hughes-D’Amico, 46, were ejected from the motorcycle. Hew was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in the Town of Poughkeepsie, where he was pronounced dead. D’Amico was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing. Shin’s vehicle went on to hit another eastbound vehicle, a 2006 Audi driven by Patrick McKinstry of Highland. McKinstry and his passenger were uninjured. This is a horrible tragedy in our area.
