Memorial Day Safety Tips

Memorial Day weekend, to many, is the official kick off of the summer season. As you prepare for upcoming celebrating, please keep the following safety tips in mind:

Travel: according to the AAA’s annual forecast nearly 40 million Americans will travel 50+ miles or more this Memorial Day weekend. This memorial day is predicted to be the busiest Memorial Day for travel since 2005. Whether you’re planning a road trip, or just a ride across town it is never safe to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, and it is never safe to drive distracted. Click here to learn more.

At Home:  if you’re grilling this summer avoid burn injuries by thoroughly cleaning your grill of any grease or dust, check for gas leaks, refrain from smoking or allowing others to smoke near the grill, and position your grill in an outdoor area. If you are hosting do your own home inspection, check for any damage caused during winter months that could result in an injury (cracked sidewalks, stairs, etc.).  

Outdoors: If you are swimming or boating avoid alcohol, impairment could increase your likelihood of drowning. Always supervise young children when they are in or near water.
