Eye Safety Checklist for the Workplace

Taking the proper safety measures to protect your eyes in the workplace is extremely important. Whether you are welding, drilling, or performing any other activity that may pose as a threat to your eyes, you should always follow this simple eye safety checklist:
1.    Create a Safe Work Environment
Minimize hazards from falling or unstable debris.
Make sure that all tools you will be using work properly and safety measures are in place.
Make sure  that you know how to properly use the machine and tools.
Keep bystanders out of the hazard area – any worker in the hazard area should be equipped with all necessary safety gear.
2.    Evaluate Safety Hazards
Identify the primary hazard at the site.
Identify hazards posed by nearby workers, large machinery, and falling/shifting debris.
3.    Wear the Proper Eye and Face Protection
Select the appropriate Z8Z eye protection for the hazard.
Make sure the eye protection is in good condition and throw away an gear that is in poor condition.
Make sure the eye protect fits properly and will stay in place while you are working.
4.    Use Good Work Practices
Caution – Brush, shake or vacuum dust and debris from hardhats, hair, forehead, or the top of the ye protection before removing the protection.
Do not rub eyes with dirty hands, gloves or clothing.
Clean all eyewear before and after use.
5.    Prepare for Eye Injuries and First Aid Needs
Have an eye wash or sterile solution on hand.
