Child-Safety Experts Call for Restrictions on Childhood Imagination

The Department of Health and Human Services issued series of guidelines to help parents reduce the risk of injuries caused by their child’s imaginations, which child-safety advocates deem as dangerous and the cause of motor vehicle accidents and congenital diseases among children ages 3-14. Child-safety expert, Kenneth McMillian says we need to destroy our child’s imagination before it destroys them. “New data shows a disturbing correlation between serious accidents and the ability of children to envision a world full of exciting possibility.” The guidelines are titled” Boundless Imagination, Boundless Hazards: Ways to Keep Your Kids Safe From a World of Wonder,” According to McMillian, children can suffer broken bones, head trauma, and even fatal injuries from unsupervised exposure to childlike behaviors. He says that by encouraging our kids to think linearly and literally, and constantly reminding them that they can never be anything but human, we can better ensure that our children will be safe from physical injury. Expert scythe dangers of the child imagination are very real, although the exact number of child fatalities connected to the imagination is unknown. in a 2006 estimate, children who regularly engage in imagination are 10 times more likely to suffer injuries such as a skilled knee or bruised and serious falls. The HHS recommends increasing communication between parents and children about the truths behind their fantasies.
