NYC Pays $800,000 After Not Fixing Broken Plastic Stanchion

While walking in lower Manhattan on a busy workday, there is a lot to be alert for – cars, busses, bicycles, power scooters and other pedestrians. That is why the City must maintain the plastic stanchions they put on the road to separate pedestrian traffic from the cars. When vehicles run a plastic stanchion over leaving it flat on the ground, the stanchion becomes a tripping hazard for the pedestrians. That is exactly what our 72-year-old client tripped over as she was returning to her office after lunch. The fall caused her to break her right arm and pelvis. The case was settled for $800,000 prior to trial.

The case was handled by Trial Partner Michael Feldman and Managing Attorney Ed Steves.
