A City of Poughkeepsie police officer was struck by a car early yesterday morning around 1:30am after a drunk driver ran a red light. The officer was on his was to assist colleagues with a stolen car and his lights and siren were on while he was traveling through the intersection of Hoffman Ave and Delafield St. The patrol car was struck on the passenger side by a 2010 Audi driven by Joanna Smykowski, 20. The police officer is recovering from several injuries including serious neck injury at Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. The driver was charged with a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and vehicle and traffic offenses. The passengers in the Audi suffered minor lacerations and refused treatment at the scene.
