Ulster, New York – On Friday, November 13th a Kingston man tragically died after being hit by a CSX train. According to authorities the 19-year old was walking home from work along tracks near Ulster Ave when he was struck by a train heading southbound.
Investigators are still determining the factors that led to the fatal incident. Local law enforcement believes the young man may have been wearing headphones which would have made it difficult or impossible to hear the approaching train.
The very day of the accident state and local law enforcement had taken to the streets, handing out flyers and urging motorists and pedestrians to be cautious while crossing and when near tracks.
Train collisions are on average 20 times more likely to cause fatal injuries than other crash types.
