After falling, our 81-year-old client suffered a brain bruise. After a brief admission to an Ulster County Hospital, he was discharged to a nursing home for short-term rehabilitation. The plan was he would return home after rehab. While at the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation & Brain Injury in Lake Katrine for only two months, he developed a significant bed sore, also known as a pressure ulcer, on his lower back. The wound became so infected that it evolved to a staph infection and ultimately led to his death. Our dedicated nursing home team represented his widow in her efforts to holding the nursing home accountable for her preventable death.
The case was settled prior to jury selection for $750,000 and was handled by Managing Attorney Ashlee Grob and Trial Partner Michael Feldman.
