In 2010 a neuropathologist  was commissioned by the Pentagon to research how the human brain is affected after being in the close proximity of an explosion. It is now more crucial than ever to develop a better understanding of the effects of brain injuries as a vast number of service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries in the last two decades. 

New York Attorney General, Eric T. Scheiderman warned Thursday, that claims by equipment makers of helmets that boast “anti-concussive” properties cannot be relied upon – especially by parents of children who play the game. Any claims made that a helmet is made to be “anti-concussive” or “concussion-proof” is misleading and a potentially dangerous claim which gives parents a false sense of security.

As the high school and college football seasons approach us, parental concerns regarding the risk of concussion begin to surface. Unfortunately, resources to prevent concussions and other injuries remain limited. State-of-the-art football helmets have recently been released and are said to measure how much force each player’s head is absorbing and relay that data via telemetry to trainers on the sidelines.

The New York Times has published this article about the Obama administration’s latest undertaking to examine the workings of the human brain.  This could have significant implications in many areas, including gaining a better understanding of such diseases facing future generations like Parkinson’s and Alz

The Associated Press reported an increase in concussion reports in the NFL this season. As a sports fan and as a neurolaw attorney, I am curious as to what the NFL will do in regards to these concussions. The NFL is filled with, in my opinion, the best athletes in the world. The biggest, fastest, and strongest men in the world play in the NFL and they collide with each other violently during games and practices.

I couldn't sleep last night.  I was anxious about six hearings I had in the morning.  But more than that, I felt a little burnt out for the first time in a long while.  I've been taking communications classes on the weekends, while constantly learning medicine at nights, all the while spending most days in Court or depositions and keeping up with my case load.
