Dangers for Motorcyclists

On Saturday, October 1st an Erie County motorcyclist died after colliding with a turkey vulture in the town of Evans.

Because cyclists aren’t able to predict or prevent animal interactions, bikersafer.com offers the following advice: “Our best bet with animals is to be aware of the sorts of places and times animals are more likely to be found, to be extra vigilant for animals, to slow down and maybe cover the brakes.”

During the autumn months cyclists should expect to encounter animals like deer, turkey, and turkey vultures on or near roadways. It is crucial that both motorcyclists and other motorists keep their eyes and attention on the road to prevent colliding with an animal, or another motorist because of an animal.
