Many drivers are far more relaxed traveling down a backroad than on busy highways like the Thruway, Route 84 and 17K, but did you know rural roads are actually more dangerous than urban roads?
Speed plays a significant role in rural road crashes, in fact more than half of all annual crash deaths occur on roads with speed limits higher than 55mph*.
Other factors that often play a role in serious crashes are distraction, driver impairment, and drowsiness. On Wednesday, July 19th, 2019 multiple vehicles were involved in a crash on route 9W in Newburgh. Tragically, one person died in the crash and several were injured. Officials have yet to announce the cause of the crash.
