Safety Agency Backs Limits to Car Devices

In an effort to reduce the risk of distracted driving, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recommending that automakers limit the functions of electronic devices built into vehicles. The guidelines released focus on minimizing amenities such as navigation systems, communication and certain entertainment devices. The guidelines also recommend limiting the amount of time drivers have to take their eyes off the road to perform any task to two seconds at a time. The NHTSA’s goal is to be able to get automakers to agree to build vehicles that make it impossible for drivers to use some electronic device while they are driving.
