Impaired Driving: Get The Facts

According to an article by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every day 30 people in the United States die in a motor vehicle-related crash that involves a drunk driver. In 2010, 10,228 people were killed in crashes involving a drunk driver. This accounts for about 30% of all traffic-related deaths in the U.S. 17% of traffic deaths among children ages 0 to 14 involved a drunk driver. More than 50% of those children were in the vehicle with the alcohol-impaired driver. More than 1.4 million drivers in the U.S. were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics in 2010. Drugs other than alcohol account for about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. The risk of being involved in a motor vehicle crash is greater among younger individuals. More than one out of every three drivers with a higher BAC level of 0.08% were between the ages of 21 and 24 years old, according to a study conducted in 2010, followed by drivers in the 25-34 age  group.
