This spring a husband and wife couple, along with their two teenage sons ventured to a popular vacation destination, St. John. Four days into their vacation emergency officials were called to the family’s rental. Inside, the mother and two sons we’re suffering from seizures and the father had fallen unconscious.

The CDC is investigating a multi state outbreak of human Salmonella infections. According to the most recent reports, 181 people have been infected and 33 have been hospitalized.

The outbreak has affected 40 states, including New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The outbreak is believed to be linked to contact with live poultry. 86% of the 95 people interviewed after becoming infected reported contact with live poultry.

The New York State Senate passed legislation to reduce the occurrence of unexpected medical charges. In recent years, patients have suffered unfair economic outcomes in exchange for necessary medical care. Thousands patients were treated by physicians and hospital staff that were not within their network of providers, resulting in steep medical bills.

Makers of Children’s Tylenol McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, were prosecuted after metal contaminants were found in Infants’ and children's liquid Tylenol.

The company agreed to a $25 million settlement to resolve the case, and acknowledged a failure to take corrective action.

The Food and Drug Administration issued an alert after a number of patients had fallen ill, with a superbug, known as CRE, that is resistant to even last-resort antibiotics.  

A massive food recall involving peanut contamination is being called the most widespread series of allergy-related recalls in history.

The recall includes more than 350,000 pounds of seasoned beef, poultry, and pork products. But meat is not the only type of product involved in the recall. MorningStar Farms black bean burgers are also included.
